What is the best belly dance DVD?
What is the best belly dance dvd for an absolute beginner? I want to be able to master the basic moves as I can't afford classes.
If you are brand new and want to learn, its best if you can find an actual teacher for hands on to make sure you are doing moves correctly so you don't end up in time messing up your body. Ask about working for your teacher to help pay for classes or volunteering at events to help pay for classes or workshops. The basics are what will be your absolute base and if you do those wrong from the beginning, the layers and harder moves will never fall into place. If you are wanting the DVD's to practice with after you learn the basics, there are many out there to choose from and if you have a teacher or know of a teacher, ask them what they prefer.

I strongly suggest that if you have comcast or verizon cable box go on demand and look on exercise tv and they should have that on there but as far as DVDs you might want to look on ebay

First of all learning from a DVD can be difficult. For basics I would try Delilah's DVDs (Absolute Beginning Bellydance), Also Suzanna del Vecchio is an amazing teacher.
On some cable packages a show called "Shimmy" is on the Fit TV network. (Since I am a more advanced dancer, this show bores me).
A good website to get more info on videos, music and even some basic moves go to http://www.shira.net
