Olive Hurley vs Jean Butler irish dance DVDs?

3rd April 2010

Which one would you recommend and why?

I have the Jean Butler Master Class DVD and the Olive Hurley Ceili DVD set.

Jean Butler assumes you are Novie/Prizewinner and know how to do basic steps. Her DVD is a conditioning/practice DVD that you will have a hard time keeping up with unless you know the basics. The warmup is really good.

Olive Hurley’s DVD (the ceili ones) are danced by kids that look like the ones in your studio. She explains the steps and does a walk through. Then the dance is done in costume to music.

Neither compare to instruction by an experienced TCRG. They should be used to augment your classes, not in replace of, IMO.
